Three times in Nordland

Marcel Nawrot
Sekcja Taternictwa Jaskiniowego KW Kraków

At the end of May 2001 a small group from Sekcja Taternictwa Jaskiniowego Klubu Wysokogorskiego Kraków went to Norway. It was a new area for us, we had only some information about few caves behind the polar circle, so we were treating this trip as a reconnaissance. We visited two caves: Svarthammarhola and the Okshola-Kristihola system. We also tried to do the Raggejavre-raige (RJR) through-trip. We went to Musken but unsuccessfully. We even did not find its upper entrance.

We prepared better for the next expedition and came into contact with Norwegian cavers. They invited us to their caving camp at Bona in August 2002. During one week we were surveing, divided in groups, Tjoarvekrajgge (Tjorve) - the longest Scandinavian cave (now 18613 m long, 502 m deep); we also did the Tjorve through-trip (entrances T2 - T1) and were survying at the Steinaksla cave. After this camp we went again to Musken; we found there a local caver who took us to RJR, so we did the throughtrip between the upper and middle entrance.

In July 2003 we went to Nordland again. At the beginning we checked the Kalvtinden area . We found and surveyed ca. 500 m at Tęczowa (Rainbow) Cave. We also visited a much bigger and very nice cave (we do not know its name) - visited , becouse somebody had found it earlier. Later we went to Bona, again to Tjorve. This time we were checking some old, problems' left - mostly small pitches, we also found a place where two main underground streams join, coming into a beautifull waterfall. All together, during this two years of our activity at Tjorve ca. 1000 m was surveyed by join Norwegian - Polish groups. After this camp we went to Mo i Rana, to visit Brattligrotta (The Rolling Stones Cave). During this trip one of us had an accident and thanks to the rest of Norwegian and British cavers and a rescue team from 330 SKV he is still able to do caving.

To Norway went : R. Białkowski (2001, 2002, 2003), K. Hebracki (2001, 2002), M. Kubarek (2002, 2003), M. Nawrot (leader -2001, 2002, 2003) - from STJ KW Krakow, E. Wójcik "Puma" (2003) - from KKTJ.

We would like to thank our friends: H.O. Aarstad, T. Doj, T. Finnesand, S. Grundstrom, B.E. Johanson, D.St. Pierre.
