different windows did not bring any solution. Again we had to accept the fact that we were so close to Lampo without the chance for connection.
Finally, the last interesting problem is Furkaschacht. With its entrance at 2477 m of elevation in the wall of the Birnhorn, it is the highest located big and known cave in the massif. Its entrance situated on a small ledge was unnoticed for a long time. The cave had a strong airflow, but its beginning consisted mainly of tight meanders with ice obstacles. This led to a scries of roomy beautifully washed pits that at depth of 200 m changed into a tight meander with very strong airflow. The northward direction of the meander was the best possible. We managed to get through 200 m of squeezes, mud and navigation through multi-level canyon. Exploration was stopped, but Furkaschacht is still full of exploration possibilities. So we will try again. Lampo for sure will not be deeper than Krubera but solving more mysteries is fascinating itself, especially as during the last three years we discovered 5000 m of new passages and pits. That is alone a satisfaction.
