Exploration of Kitzsteinhorn caves is conducted since 1982 (see: Polish Caving 1997-2001). Since 1998 the main objective of the Krakowski KlubTaternictwaJaskiniowego (KKTJ) has been to continue the exploration of Feichterschacht cave, which had been begun by Richard Feichtner in 1984. Years 1998-2001 saw 2400 m of subterranean discoveries, and the cave was deepened from -520 to -1025 m.
