In 1998, after several years of efforts, we have again managed to get an exploration permit. The first expedition was filled with tedious rigging of the cave and surveying the already known series. At last, towards the end of the expedition, we could start exploring. Descents through successive shafts got us quickly to a chamber with several narrow clefts, too narrow to pass. The depth was 623 m. The next year another expedition tried to attack the bottom again, without success, finding a sump at the lowest place reached
earlier. So we tried our luck at higher levels. We only managed to find
a new vertical series at the depth of 410 m, but 120 m lower it connected
again with the main series. As the most interesting problem we have chosen
a digging site in a side pocket at the depth of 480 m. It was there where
we started to explore during the next expedition in 2000. After a few
days of intense work we have suddenly got into a spacious gallery. Exploration
frenzy ensued. The galleries followed for several hundred metres and were
cut in several places by vertical series. We have descended to the depth
of 697 m in one of them, to the top of another shaft. |
