Grubernhornhöhle - Austrian
ladder, ph. Dariusz Bartoszewski
|
During the following expeditions Ogrschacht become the main target of our
exploration. After descending a pit where the exploration stopped in 1996
a great chamber was reached. The vertical part of this cave turned out to
be relatively easy at first. But after first thunderstorms we had to add
over 60 re-belays in order prevent complications during very rapid water
increases. After establishing a camp on the bottom of the chamber there
were numerous attempts to follow the water through breakdown on the floor.
The lowest found point was located 614 meters below the entrance. When that
failed a dry side passage was discovered. After many of the dig-through
the passage continued in the western direction with the strong airflow.
Extensive ridge walking done when we were free from the exploration of the
Ogrschacht yielded a discovery of many smaller caves. The most interesting
of them was Barenstühlhöhle. Its large and visible entrance was known from
a long time ago, though had ever entered this cave. This system of horizontal
passageways reached the length over one kilometer.
During recent expeditions the exploration of Ogrschacht has yielded additional
horizontal passages extending the cave in the eastern direction. The passages
have a very strong airflow and are progressively getting bigger. However
the large distance from the bivouac and the system of very tight canyons
on the way, is making the exploration more and more difficult. At the same
time we managed to discover additional new caves in the area. Unfortunately

significant depth or length levels. The first of them ¦nie¿na, reached a
depth of 163 meters of depth, the second of them, Martahöhle reached a depth
of 132 meters. Our plans for future expeditions concentrate on extending
Ogrschacht and connecting it to other caves in the area through the horizontal
passages at - 500 m level.
